Transition Council

We were delighted to welcome year 6 representatives from our feeder primary schools recently. They met with current year 7 pupils to discuss their experiences of moving from primary to secondary school.

Year 6 pupils were able to ask questions to help them find out about Ysgol Harri Tudur/ Henry Tudor School and what they can expect from the transition opportunities. They also had the chance to discuss what they would like to see offered to ensure that they settle quickly into their new school.

Quotes from Y6

"It was good to hear other people's opinions."

"The thing I liked about the first transition council meeting was we got to know more about what goes on and being prepared."

"We found out a lot of information about the school."

"It was good for the Year 7s to get used to talking to the younger people joining soon."

"It's been good as we can help improve Welcome Day."

Year 7 pupils were very keen to be part of the process to pass on what they felt had been successful and to help improve transition for the next intake of pupils.

Quotes from Year 7

"We can help with people getting used to the school and how it works"

"Today was good because Year 6 had questions and we could help"

“You said…….we did”

We have been able to act on some of the suggestions already:

  1. We are worried about where to sit in the refectory…… We are trialling having 4 large tables which are reserved for year 7 only.
  2. We would like to spend more time in Ysgol Harri Tudur….. We are already planning a Harry Potter Science event and in the summer term there will be a new Health and Wellbeing transition day.
  3. We would like to do more, shorter lessons on Welcome Day….. We are looking at the arrangements to try to make this happen.
  4. Can we ask more questions to help us feel prepared ?…… Mrs Martin will be sending cards to each primary school to enable year 6 pupils to send in a question which will be answered by our year 7 pupils.
